Psychological support in emergency situations

Training to enable professionals to learn and practise the knowledge, skills and tools specific to psychological support in order to facilitate encounters with critical situations in their activity.

Training aims

General objectives

  • To manage psychosocial support strategies which enable participants to include, within their healthcare activity, guidelines to favour the emotional state of the patient and management of critical situations.

Specific objectives

  • To understand the basic objectives of the psychosocial intervention and the different moments for the timing of the intervention.
  • To understand the neurological reaction of a person in a state of crisis and thus develop effective intervention methods.
  • To understand the reasons that lead to a person to experience a crisis and their different reactions at different stages of a traumatic crisis.
  • To learn intervention strategies to help the affected person to successfully cope with each of the stages.
  • To learn and train specific psychological support techniques to facilitate performance in different critical situations.
  • To understand the psychological process involved in a crisis and prevent its consequences.
  • To learn guidelines for mastering one’s own emotions and improve self-management as a prior step to managing others.
  • To learn self-protection guidelines and strategies for participants as well as intervention techniques with participants.
