The new openings provided by virtual reality are so evident that there is no longer any doubt that they will be widely used in the future and will penetrate all spheres of society including, naturally, healthcare and training. This is an ideal time for society to welcome these innovative, progressive projects that show the potential of these technologies in healthcare and training.
One of the virtual reality initiatives launched in Living Lab Salud is the Virtual Reality Scenario, a three-dimensional environment which admits several concurrent remote users and where they can interact. The three-dimensional environment provides a platform for staging, testing and validating specific pilot and experimental projects which make use of the services available and involve the participation of different user groups.

The IAVANTE Foundation has further developed this environment, implementing it in two projects:
Virtual Simulated Patient (VSP). As part of its trainning programme for healthcare professionals, IAVANTE has created the Virtual Simulated Patient, an alternative offering many advantages over the use of actors as patients during practice sessions. The virtual patient is a real patient and behaves just as a patient would during an interview with his doctor, displaying symptoms and giving the correct answers to questions. Course tutors have a choice of patients with different profiles.
Multilingual Virtual Simulated Patient (MVSP). The IAVANTE Foundation heads the European project "Multilingual Virtual Simulated Patient" (MVSP), focused on adapting the progress already made with Virtual Simulated Patients to the different languages spoken in Europe, including the complete adaptation of the patient to the official language spoken in a given country, and also introducing as a second language that spoken by the largest immigrant population of the same country. The project, which will run for two years, also includes a pilot scheme in each of the consortium member countries, and various activities to deliver results.
